What does the bike have to be, legally, in NSW?
In New South Wales a power-assisted pedal cycle can use roads and shared paths with no registration and no licence, provided the motor output is limited and the pedal assistance cuts out at 25 km/h (Transport for NSW, nsw.gov.au). The Centauro is built to sit inside that: a 250W continuous rear hub motor with pedal assistance to 25 km/h.
What the battery numbers actually mean
The Centauro runs a 48V 25Ah Samsung lithium-ion pack, which is 1,200 watt-hours. Watt-hours are the number worth reading: volts multiplied by amp-hours, and the closest thing an e-bike has to a fuel-tank size. That pack is UL 2271 certified, the electrical system is built to UL 2849, and the 6061 aluminium frame is ISO 4210 compliant. The welded rear rack is rated to 50kg and the optional front basket to 15kg, with a 150kg maximum combined rider and cargo load.
